Problem Note 64636: SAS® Enterprise Guide® 8.1 fails to update after you select "Check for updates"

A SAS Enterprise Guide 8.1 deployment that is performed using its stand-alone installer might have issues occur after you attempt to update by selecting Check for updates.
A timing issue occurs during the SAS Enterprise Guide shutdown and update process, which prevents the update from completing.
Workarounds
Workaround 1
Open SAS Enterprise Guide 8.1. Before you select Check for updates, submit the following code:
x=sleep(15);
run;
While the code is processing, select Help ► Check for updates and complete the process. The SLEEP function delays the shutdown process in order to enable the update to complete and avoid any timing issues.
Workaround 2
Instead of using the Check for updates feature, download and apply the latest SAS Enterprise Guide 8.1 hot fix from the SAS 9.4 Hot Fix Downloads page and follow the steps in "Installation using Windows Installer (MSI)" within the documentation that is provided with the hot fix.
